Einstein and The Atomic Bomb

Enstein TIME Einstein and The Atomic BombPeople still believe, incorrectly, that Einstein is at fault with respect to the creation of the atomic bomb. Wishing to do him justice, and not being misinformed on the subject, I decided to dedicate a section of the star of the sailor for fair share of responsibility is given to everyone in the creation of the atomic bomb.

A pacifist unlucky with the Time

The myth of Einstein at fault for the atomic bomb was most likely started with the wrong information published in mass. See for yourself. This issue of Time not very accurate nor very clever is it seems to me out shortly after the explosion of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima. Unfortunately, the receivers of bad information has not shown enough of doubt, the myth has continued until today. Indeed, Einstein was a pacifist unlike other famous scientists such as Niels Bohr, Richard Feynman and John von Neuman, all of the middle “physicist”, Einstein did not participate in the Manhattan Project, the American project development the atomic bomb. Einstein was aware, during the Second World War, Nazi Germany was in the process of developing the atomic bomb. He then wrote a letter to President of the United States in which he says that Germany is currently developing the atomic bomb, which had the effect of accelerating the development of the atomic bomb the United States. Later, he felt guilty for sending this letter, while it was not really his fault. I think it is animated by a great moral sense that he wanted to see the harm he had with him in this matter.

By the way, what does that mean “E = mc ²”?

A question everyone should ask themselves: what does the formula “E = mc ²”?

This is part a bit more technical, but it does not recquiert that count as a prerequisite to know and to have an idea of ??what a chemical reaction.
For chemical reactions, I will create a special article on that, it’s so basic that I may have to rewrite each article. If you have ever been in third class and you kept your course, you can always take a look …
But no worries, go to the following text, you should at least understand some icon wink Einstein and The Atomic Bomb

Indeed, the formula E = mc ² means something, but it’s not the most interesting. E, it refers to the energy. m, it is the mass of a piece of material. c is the speed of light in vacuum, a very large number. The small 2 at the top right of c, it means “squared”: c ² is the same as c times c, a number even greater than c.
If we want to make sense of the formula “E = mc ²”, it means that potentially, in a piece of material of mass m, there is an energy value of mc ². c ² is very large, we can have a lot of energy with something not very mass. In practice, one can never extract a fraction of this energy so-called mass, but the formula is somewhat reassuring on energy supply for humanity seeking to extract greater and greater fraction of energy of mass.

The formula that really matters is this:

Formula enstein Einstein and The Atomic Bomb

The triangle with one point upward, is a Greek letter called “delta”, more precisely, a delta capitalized. It is a symbol that is used in materials science to say “change”.
What it means? That by removing a certain mass m DELTA a piece of material, one can extract energy both DELTA m c ² is to say a lot of energy for not much mass. Unlike the previous formula, it is not about a potentially extractable energy, but this is actually happening during a chemical reaction.
In chemical reactions, there are variations in masses brought into play in each piece of material, there is a mass energy mc ² value, when reduced, it shows another form of energy (kinetic or bright I admit to not knowing), but it may also make it appear from the crowd. Sometimes two light particles, photons, collide and create particles with mass, so that the light does not! This can be done by absorbing light energy, an energy equal to c ² times the mass change, as stated in the formula.
When chemical reactions with as part of the nucleons, best known as the nuclear reactions, the mass variations are significant enough that changes in kinetic energy associated with light or heavy. When a nuclear bomb explodes (whether running a bomb fission or nuclear fusion), most of the energy created by the disappearance of part of the mass energy is thermal energy, energy-related microscopic movement of matter. In other words, a nuclear bomb is dangerous because it heats a lot. There is also a very important light energy that is released during the explosion of an atomic bomb (I mean: an atomic bomb).

Einstein never proved the formula

Did Einstein demonstrated the form DELTA DELTA E = m c ²? And no! He once made a semblance of proof, in a text with a number of shortcomings:

-It does not pretend to be an exact demonstration, it claims demonstrate just approximate formula.
-Einstein assumed that from the beginning … DELTA DELTA E = m c ²!

So it’s not a real demonstration. The theoretical demonstration of this formula was made by Planck in 1907. The experimental demonstration, the only really valid until 1931 with Cockcroft and Walton, using a particular accelerate particles to initiate a nuclear reaction.

Conclusion:

That does not take Einstein responsible for episodes of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we do not even take responsibility to have discovered the formula for the energy variation of mass as they are Cockcroft and Walton who discovery!

For those who want to know more, I invite you to read the book by Jean Hladik E = mc ² unknown history of a famous formula.
