The Golden Age of Increased Budget

Earlier this year, the former Minister of Higher Education Valerie Pecresse spoke of the golden age of the university. Former directors of higher education were moved lucky to Patrick Hetzel, the current incumbent, not to distribute tens of thousands of dollars, but hundreds of thousands, even millions, universities each year. It would seem that the time budgets “to bless the university” is well and truly behind us.

If in 2012, higher education is still one of the “budget priorities,” said Laurent Wauquiez, the minister of higher education and research, universities should not frankly see increase their means. The budget sector will increase by 769 million euros, but only 46 million euros (excluding payroll) will go directly to institutions (+0.4%). With an expected inflation of 1.7%, most universities will in fact reduce their grant in 2012. Nearly 191 million euros will be spent in payroll.

An effort for students

With a further EUR 91 million, the budget “student life” provides funding for the tenth month fellowship is budgeted and continue to invest in student housing. However, research organizations will once again tighten their belts.
